GMCAT Introduction
In mathematical language, GMCAT = GMAT + CAT.
GMCAT is a hybrid course for both GMAT and CAT preparation. We believe that both the tests are very similar and complementary to each other.
Common Admission Test (CAT) is an all-India Entrance test conducted by IIMs. This computer-based test is for admission to their 2-year full-time PG programs in management. Other Indian business schools such as IITs, FMS, S P Jain, MDI, NITIE, etc also accept CAT scores.
The Graduate Management Admission Test is a computer adaptive test intended to assess analytical, quantitative & verbal skills in Mathematics and English. GMAT is accepted by more than 6,000 business and management programs worldwide.
Why prepare for GMAT and CAT simultaneously?
GMAT & CAT have the same syllabus, both deal with Mathematics and English. Both tests complement each other. Preparing for GMAT helps CAT aspirants in verbal, and CAT preparation helps GMAT aspirants in Quantitative Section. Most of the sections in both the tests are common.
MBA admission is a steep road. It’s important to keep all doors open. It’s good to be confident, but there is a thin line difference between confidence and over-confidence. CAT success rate (% of students getting admission in good colleges) is meager. GMAT, on the other hand, opens doors for almost all the global and Indian business schools.
One more misconception about GMAT is that it’s only for rich. A Business school is not “Global” if it does not keep “Currency Disparity” in their mind. That’s why they offer scholarships to aspirants from lower-valued currency countries. Almost all the Indian students end up getting scholarships to study abroad.
Note for Graduation Final Year Students:
- Business schools accepting GMAT scores need at least 2+ Years work experience. But then also it makes more sense to give GMAT with CAT. The first reason is GMAT score is valid for five years.
- Secondly, It’s much better to have a GMAT score before selecting business schools. It gives time to aspirants to work on their needed profile.
- Thirdly, Taking out study time is much easier in student life compared to that in job times. Most of the working applicants find it very difficult to take time out for studies.
- Lastly, CAT success rate is meager compared to GMAT. Till your overall %ile is touching 99, you are not a serious candidate for IIM-A, B & C. And if your %ile is lower than 98%, you have to go for tier-2 B-schools only.
GMAT & CAT Section-wise Analysis:
Verbal Section
Sentence Correction: Both exams require candidates to spot grammatical errors. There is one manageable difference. GMAT SC is based on American English while CAT SC is based on British English.
Reading Comprehension: The passages in the CAT and GMAT are almost equally cryptic. RC in GMAT is more difficult than that in CAT.
Critical Reasoning: GMAT CR is tougher than CAT CR. If you are prepared for GMAT CR, then CAT CR is a cakewalk.
Quantitative Section
CAT preparation will make GMAT Quant a kid’s play. The good news is that many CAT topics such as logarithms, trigonometry, calendars, clocks, shares, etc are not tested in GMAT.
Analytical writing assessment
GMAT tests your clarity of thinking in this section. It looks for content, the organization of thought process, language skills and writing mechanisms in evaluating the essays. The good news is that the AWA is not a tough section to ace.
GMAT & CAT Comparison
Both GMAT & CAT are most popular MBA entrance examinations. Most of the Business Schools in India accept CAT or GMAT score. In India, the number of B-schools accepting GMAT scores is higher than those accepting CAT score. Please refer GMAT Accepting Schools in India

Admission Standard Operating Procedure
Every new student is mapped into a “Zero Group” for a week. Zero group is also called “Introductory Phase Group”. After a week, as per performance of individual in the class and our internal “Mapping System”, students are invited for Regular or Elite batches.
Our Internal Mapping System is a process to mark or rate students on the basis of their Intellect, Intelligence (IQ), Aptitude, Attitude and Commitment.
Our Mapping system also helps us in making “Homogeneous Batches”. Similarly mapped students are grouped into same batches.
Batch Selection Methodology
We follow scientific selection and batch-making process. Batches are made on the basis of our internal “Mapping Parameters”. Similarly mapped students are grouped into the same batches. In this way we create homogeneous groups in terms of Intellect, Intelligence (IQ), Aptitude, Attitude and Commitment. It also brings meaningful competition among the students.
This also helps us in creating course syllabus, curriculum and pace for a batch. As we provide customized educational solutions for everyone, our internal mapping system helps us in multiple ways to create a meaningful and effective course strategy. Higher mapped students are given a very different solution compared to lower mapped students. We divide all students into five kinds of groups. They are 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 series batches. Elite batches are batch series 9 & 10.
Money-Back Promise
We are proud of our products. Our “Money-Back Promise” is to symbolize our confidence in our education solutions. We also believe that teachers should take responsibility for any shortcomings.
Our all courses come with this feature in which fee is returned if a student is not able to get promised score in the Test.
Our 6 series batches offer a 600+ or 60+ percentile score promise.
Our 7 & 8 series batches offer a 650+ or 80+ percentile score promise.
Our 9 series batches offer a 700+ or 90+ percentile score promise.
Our 10 series batches offer a 750+ or 96+ percentile score promise.

GMCAT Course Structure
GMCAT courses whether regular or customized are unique in their structure.
All Phases of the course are designed to be a “One-on-One” Instruction.
All Courses are divided into four phases:
- Introductory or Mapping Phase (One-on-One Stage): This phase is employed at the beginning and usually takes 2-4 sessions. In this phase, GMCAT Instructors try to analyze every student in the batch by their interaction with them. This step takes 10% of total course time.
- Foundation Phase (Batch Stage): It covers basics of all sections of CAT & GMAT. This phase is around 20-50% of the whole course.
- Testing Phase (One-on-One Stage): This phase involves Computer Adaptive Tests, Computer Based Tests, and Paper Based Tests. Every course comes with a commitment of “Minimum Tests” i.e. a minimum number of tests which a student has to attempt to complete the course.
- Control Phase (One-on-One Stage): This last Phase is to look into any gaps in test preparation.
What is the maximum number of Tests offered?
No Limit. We don’t assign it to a numerical value. The objective of Testing Phase is to improve student’s ability. Tests for any student will not stop till we see desired results.
